An utterly devistating but socially significant film, including some of the best performances of recent memory. It's not to be missed, but not for the faint of heart.

Director Jason Reitman delivers his most emotioally nuanced film yet. Tackling serious subject matter with a light and funny but appropriate touch, it's fueled by strong writing, amazing performances and a unique, timely message that's honest but not overplayed.

This indie drama uniquely depicts a challenging, unconventional romance with a smart script and wonderfully nuanced, sensative performances by Hugh Dancy and Rose Byrne, who both desere Oscars for their perfectly understated work.

Providing a case study in fine acting. Sam Rockwell carries this entire film almost siglehandedly and it delivers a totally unique, extremely compelling and utterly thoughtful sci-fi tale -- without an over-reliance on CGI. Director Duncan Jones' future career is one to watch.

That it includes Heath Ledger's final performance would be enough reason to see "Doctor Parnassus," but there are many more. It is a wildly inventive and richly compelling fantasy epic that will truly transport you to another world. A must-see!

Sophomore series director David Yates has delivered the strongest HP film yet. He keeps the story bounding forward while nerturing the talents of the young cast. Bonnie Wright and Tom Felton are particular standouts here with increased roles in this installment. However, it still suffers from the viewer having to connect certian dots with backstory from the novel.

Though not quite up to the level of their best classics, Disney's long-awaited return to traditional hand-drawn animation is a throughly entertaining good time with a strong story, engaging characters, great vocal performances, plesant (if forgettable) music, and beautiful artistry.

Though it takes a while to get going, when it does, Coraline immerses you in a totally engaging and enjoyably creepy other world with wonderful visuals and an engaging, creative story. Highly reccomended.

Peter Jackson delivers a deeply uneven film version of the fantastic novel which is too short and lacks depth of character, but still includes several memorable scenes (particularly the opening act) and strong performances. Worth a rental.

An exceptionally unique and demanding film from Francis Ford Coppola which is like nothing else put on screen this year, "Tetro" is an engaging mix of real human drama and exciting mystery that will likely satisfy those willing to accept its bold, different nature.

Michael Stuhlbarg gives an exceptionally strong performance as the sympathetic title character here, which makes the film work despite some unnessescay indulgences by the directors. Worth seeing.
